After more than 65 days of lockdown, situations are becoming worst and worst. People who are living on edges are facing starvation. Along with government lots of NGOs, foundations, individuals are coming forward to support vulnerable people. Vikalp started its support to most vulnerable people just after 6 days of lockdown.

In the first phase of COVID19 Response,

  • We resolved a number of domestic violence cases through counseling and legal processors during this period with the help of our helpline.
  • We also supported a number of migrant laborers to get proper buses and trains for their home states and districts through the Rajasthan government's relief centers.
  • We provided 2400 food packets to stranded migrants.
  • We are closely working in coordination with local government administration to help most needy people and implementation of COVID19 guidelines, schemes, and relief services.

  • Each kit costs Rs 500 (6.85 USD) per unit.
  • It consists of essential groceries of 15 days - Oil 1 litter, Rice 1 kg, Sugar 1 kg, Tea leaf 200 gm, Turmeric 200 gm, Red Chilli powder 200 gm, Salt 1 kg, Cumin Seeds 100 gm, Soap 2 pc, and Mask 2 pc.

Vikalp Sansthan's 2nd Phase Roadmap in helping Communities

Currently, in lockdown 4.0 we have noticed that situation of such people are at risk of death due to having no jobs, no earnings, no shelter, no adequate support to strike an equilibrium, girls and women are at risk of health due to no supply of menstrual safety pads or other healthcare equipment’s.

On the basis of first phase experience and regular follow up we came to realize the awful condition of vulnerable people, migrants in the rural remote areas.

So, we are in our 2nd phase of COVID19 response targeted to reach to
  • 1550+ families with ration kits in remote rural and urban areas of Udaipur District,
    • will supply 400+ sanitary pads,
    • 4000+ soaps,
    • 4000+ masks and
  • We will also concentrate on providing help to those who reside beyond our operational limits. A lot of them are not listed in government lists and should be provided with help.
  • We will establish 10 learning and educational center for children and adolescent girls to zero the risk of child marriage, child labour, gender-based violence, abuse, drop out from education; and revive life more innovatively.

Pandemic reflection on disabled

Left Jharkhand years ago, Lalu Ram and his wife chose Udaipur for the better livelihood. Their disabilities has never been obstacles in any way. But loss of house and savings in massive fire left them of nowhere. One side, imposition of uncertain lockdown and other hand neither home nor source of earning push them into starvation.

In such a situation Vikalp helped them as helped others with COVID-19 relief kits. Vikalp knew their situation while distributing essential groceries kits among such vulnerable.

Domestic Violence Survivor

“I was physically, mentally tortured for three months. My husband beat me up to an inch of my life. I begged him to spare me. He told me either to keep quite or to get out of the house. I am worried what to do and where to go. My parents would not accept me as I had come with Pyarelal against my parents’ consent." Anju shared it with us.

Anju Gameti, 22-year-old motherof two toddlers living Pyarelal. But the Pyarelal was much more brutal and deceiver than her ex-husband. Anju made call in Vikalp helpline. Our team took her to police station and logged FIR against her husband. Finally after counseling of Anju's parents she wastaken to the parental house. Now she got escaped from the clutches of violent husband and living her life happily with her parents and her own children. For further queries Anju asked to contact Vikalp helpline anytime she needed.

We are receiving such more calls on Vikalp helpline and are helping at our best during the COVID-19.

It’s better to go home

"Nobody is there in bad times, and Pandemic is the witness to that. What we only want to reach our houses at any cost and won’t be back ever." said the Migrant Laborers while boarded on the Special Train for Migrants at Udaipur City Railway station.

The daily wage laborers, those who were working in the local small industries around the Udaipur districts, were terminated from the industries or factories. Many among them were serving for 15-17 years in a single factory, but they are forced to move to their hometowns putting years of trust aside. Most of the migrant workers are from other states of India like Bihar, Bengal, Assam, Utter Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, etc. Over time their lives began destitutely. Every day passed on soliciting help from authority to take them to their hometowns.

The migrants said that factory owners are not offering us jobs, so what we will do to stay here if stays we will die with hunger. Somehow we could manage to live alone anywhere but what about those who have wives and children. So, it’s better to go home and die with our own kith and kin. Those who are here with their families are in more danger.

This story has been shared with us when we were distributing essential groceries among the home going migrants. We distributed essential food packets among 2400 such stranded migrants.

"Grain Donation Campaign"

Pandemic pushed hundreds of migrants from Bihar and Utter Pradesh into jobless, homeless and food less situation. Increasing lockdown restricted them neither to go home nor to stay in rented house without food. But the collection of 4oo kilogram grains community through 'grain donation campaign' freed their worry in Mavli block.

In times of Pandemic this idea inspired by Vikalp Sansthan proved as worthwhile and can be instance for other states
